Dear Ashley Clarke,
With reference to your letter to Gent No. F.4236/1/10 of the 24th September about the Chinese Customs office at Hong Kong, I enclose a copy of a telegram from Hong Kong deprecating the proposal to close the office at Kowloon.
We have already telegraphed to the Acting Governor telling him that we would have no objection to his addressing a communication to the local Customs Commissioner on the lines suggested in Shanghai telegram No. 821. After considering the enclosed telegram we are still of the view that Maze's proposal is the best course to follow, and subject to your concurrence we would like to send
gram to the Acting Governor on the lines
enclosed draft.
Yours sincerely,
(Sgd.) W.B.L. Monson.
